Assigned Entry #6: Blogging

In the past I have blogged before. I first did not know what this whole blogging was but once it was introduced to me in English 101 it was easier to understand in English 102. Blogging has helped me put my ideas out and it has provided me with feedback from my peers. I thought blogging would be boring but it isn't I actually enjoyed doing it. The only difficult thing I would say was coming up with self-generated entries; some days I didn't know what to write about which made me feel frustrated.

Personally, I took blogging very seriously because it was part of my grade for this semester. If I wouldn't have done it my grade would have been worse. I’m very glad I took the time and effort to complete all my entries before Professor Chris would grade them. This blogging experience was useful to all (I would say) because it didn't take much time away and it was much better than doing a FOURTH writing project!

Professor Chris I hope you continue doing Blogs because it was a nice assignment where everyone could manage to make some time for. I wish you the best of luck with your future classes.

Trip to the zoo

Lately I've been feeling way too much stress, school work is piling up that it has be growing out grey hair (sarcasm). So out of nowhere my brother and I decided to plan a trip to the Phoenix Zoo and we went this past Friday, April 19, 2013. We invited our "best cousins" and that morning we started getting our food and drinks ready.

We all know the zoo is huge, so of course we had to take plenty of water because it was going to be a long walk. I hadn't been to the zoo ever since third grade so it was nice being there after so long. I personally thought that the time there went flying, the hours went by so quick that we didn't have enough time to go around the entire zoo, which was sad because I still wanted to see the big turtle and the elephant Sheena. I did see the elephant but as we were passing her on the train. Passing Sheena on the train was fun but it would have been better walking through there.

My favorite animal that I had the chance to see was the zebra. They looked so amazing with their black and white stripes, or is it white and black stripes? who knows...

We took my beautiful niece with us even if she's only a month old and if she's not going to remember anything but hey, we couldn't have left her behind. I had such a wonderful time with my family and so many funny memories that are going to stay with me. I can say this trip helped me feel more relaxed and ready for the school week to start.

Assigned entry #5 Media

The day we started talking about the power of media in class made me pay attention to the types of media that were occurring during my favorite t.v shows. We do not notice it but media has became so popular ever since television was created. The power media through commercials has advertised so many products going from make up, to clothes, to hair-dye,  to perfumes, everything you can consider selling material.

One of the things I see more everyday during commercial is covergirl or O'lay trying to sell their make up products trying to make women feel like they are in need of it. These advertising products make women want to purchase it because they persuade the audience that it will make one have flawless skin including saying good-bye to wrinkles. These products tend to be for the older women who want to get rid of all the "beauty mistakes" they have. Every women should feel comfortable the way they were brought into this world. There is no need to feel the neccesity to purchase these kinds makeup. Every single women is beautiful in there own way.

Also maybelline advertising the "false lashes" pretending it's going to give girl those long lashes they've always wished for. Do you seriously believe that's going to happen? NO! I myself as a consumer can tell you that's a lie! I once decided to buy mascara thinking it was going to make my eyes look "stunning" but no they looked the same as with the other mascara. No women should feel intimidated with all the media out there.

All the media is trying to do is make others feel uncomfortable with the way they are or look. Physical appearance had became one of the greatest media and has make people fall into depression and unsatisfied with the way they are. I have been noticing now more than ever that when the maybelline, covergirl or O'lay products come out it does sure try it's best to intimidate others.

My favorite Band. (Banda)

I just truly loveeeee Banda El Recodo. They are a Mexican regional band that was formed back in 1938. This band is formed of 18 group members where two of them are the led singers. They mostly sing romantic music that just gets to you. They as a group have recorded over 180 albums. They are one group that has not died out like many others; they stand still even if they change group members.

I just love every single song that they have. Everyday has it's own way of getting to my heart. The lyrics are just amazing. Banda El Recodo has been all over Mexico and all over the United States. This group just gets more and more fame with the new songs they create. They are a well-known Band that other singers like to make duets with them. Some songs that I love from them are just below.

They are songs that anyone can hear for any mood you're in. When I'm down I hear them, when I'm happy I can hear them as well.

Assigned entry #4 Capitalism

In the film Capitalism: A Love Story, Michael Moore explains America's relationship with capitalism and I truly found the relationship so impressing.  Capitalism is an economic and political system in which a country's trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit. By the definition of capitalism and the film of Michael Moore I now understand more about it and I can say it really has me worried that the United States can become capitalist. In this film I had the chance to see how America actually is "a messed up nation." I liked the fact that Michael Moore appeared in the film and gave his personal opinion and the way that he was just himself.

In the film from pathos, ethos, and logos I saw more of the pathos part. The film to me showed more emotion than ethos or logos, though it did have some parts of them. I saw how the people that were getting thrown out of their homes were suffering and just thought it wasn't fair. How Michael Moore involved the end of Bush's term & he than stated the word "capitalism." Just seeing how Americans were losing their homes to foreclosure and seeing their saving go out the window was just sad. Also by seeing how the people that were taking out others from their homes didn't have any emotion towards the actions they were making.

In the video above MIchael Moore is confronted by Hannity on the topic of Capitalism. They both get really into the topic and seem to be arguing. Overall I think the film Capitalism: A Love Story was a great one, it got my attention and got my to a better understanding of it.

Waiting....

I've been waiting for so long now too long I would say. I have been waiting for over 9 months for my niece to be born already. I would have thought she would have been born on March 7th but no luck. I'm just so excited that I want to see her already. My sister in law is 39 weeks.

My niece will be named Mia Elizabeth. The name was picked by my cousins, brothers, sister in law and me. We were all gathered up together naming names until we liked some. We all voted for the name that we liked the most and it was Mia. Afterwards we were discussing that a second name would be perfect since her name was going to be so short.

Mia Elizabeth is going to be my first niece so my whole family is just excited and anxious to meet the little one. The house is already full with baby stuff, and stuff that Mia isn't going to be using until she's like two or three. Hopefully my niece is born any day now during spring break. I'm so glad I'm going to be an aunt and it's going to be a new experience; lets see how this goes..

Assigned Entry #3 ASU shorter classes

Every college and University have what's called the 15 week semester courses. The 15 week is a result of professors instructing at a normal pace where everyone actually seems to be following along. Arizona State University is developing what's called the 7 1/2 week semester course, where classes are being taught in a faster pace so that students can graduate faster and have a tuition that students won't be bother with as much. ASU plans to help students want to continue their education and be glad they finished sooner.

My opinion about this 7 1/2 week semester courses is that yes it does seem to be interesting in the way that it's going to help more students with the tuition rates. It is also going to persuade more students into attending the university because they see that there's a program that goes much faster than having to attend university for 4 years. Also students that want to drop out might even think about it twice before doing so.

My personal opinion though is that I would not like to attend a 7 1/2 week semester course because I like to learn in a more slower pace. I do like the idea of lower tuition but I won't be learning as well as having the 15 weeks. Professor would be seeming to teach much faster and I need my time to process the work. It would seem to me like taking a summer class of 5 weeks where everything is being taught and learned is a super speed.

One of the comment that I was reading and got my attention was "Sounds more like a crammed summer course to me where you just get the hours in in order to get the grade and get out as fast as you can." I agree because like I said everything is in a faster speed and students have to process everything right there. Another comment that I looked at was this one "Call it the new Wal-Mart degree.. We sell for less. I'm from the old school. College degrees should not be earned on line." Yes I agree as well, I believe students should take the time that is necessary to earn the degree and not just be shorten so that they graduate faster. They need the time to get everything in place.

Estefani's & Ariana's Adventure!

Back in the beginning of February Estefani and I were on a hunt! We were looking for Grape fruits. She was doing it for her mom and I was doing it for myself. We do not like grape fruits but since they help burn some fat off we were doing it. Since I'm in a diet I was like "okay lets go for it!"One day after ENG 102 we were walking to get the bus and we passed through a "park" that had lots and lots of grape fruit trees. Those trees seemed to be calling me name as we were passing through there.

I was wondering who they belonged too since there where buildings really close by; because I did not want to take some without permission. My temptation took over me and I was like whatever lets do this, so I told my friend Estefani to look out for me while I got under the tree and tried to pulled some out. But lucky me the grape fruits were too high that I only managed to pull out two...

Estefani then goes under the tree while it was my turn to look out so nobody could see us. But even though Estefani is tall she herself couldn't reach either. So even though we didn't manage to get many grape fruit; just two we let laughing for having to something crazy right after class. But next thing you know.... three days later my parents come home with like 50 grape fruits!

Assigned Entry #2 Slanted Reporting

While watching the news have you ever wondered if all that is true? One gets so into what reporters are informing that it makes one completely believe what they are informing us with. As you go on watching the news one channel can be reporting one side while another new channel can be reporting the other and you can't seem to understand which side has a point. Reporting one side of a story stands for slanted reporting. People have no idea about this reporting happening. Reporters have their own opinion on the situation they encounter, and sometimes they add their opinion into what they are reporting. Slanted reporting is media which consistently reports news that is not accurate or is intentionally distorted.

In this video the guy talking is mentioning how Fox News misinterpreted a Obama's story of gas prices. Fox News said that Obama was asking Eric Holder to investigate whether the oil companies have manipulated through fraud the rising of gas prices, however the real story was that gas prices are surging to four dollars a gallon, the story is Obama solution to break the back of rising costs is to have attorney general Eric Holder form a task force to examine allege fraud or manipulation of the oil markets. Basically what Fox News was doing is that they were blaming the oil companies for fraud.

Fox News is one of the news channel's that has been using slanted reporting most often. They tend to tell one side of the story instead of telling everything at once. But they do so because there is a time limit being on air.

In this other video from second 27 to minute 3:06 Fox News the Reporter cuts Obama off right when he was about to say he can DO what he exactly just did but Fox News said he's not suppose too. They just gave the side they liked to hear.

Weight

Have you just ever stepped on a scale and freaked out about your weight or just took the numbers as what they are, numbers? Well I myself have decided to do something different something I have wanted for years! I have always wanted to start losing weight but I have never taken the time or the effort to do so; I would always say "tomorrow I'll start working out" but tomorrow for me never came. Weight for me was never one of the things I cared about until I looked at myself in the mirror and saw that my cheeks were getting BIGGER than usual, now that's when I told myself I had to do something!
I started working out and started a diet back in September 12 of 2012, and yes it was the hardest thing ever! I would eat whatever my mom would make but less, no chips, no soda, no candy no nothing bad. I started exercising and running at night after I knew I wasn't going to eat anymore so that way I would actually burn some weight. After doing my routine afterwards I would eat grape fruit because that burns some fat off. YES you can feel it burning your stomach. In November I decided to go to the doctor for my physical and the doctor like myself was impressed that I had lost 18 pounds! Knowing that I lost weight made me feel so good about myself.
When Christmas came along I stopped working out, but once New years and once my eyebrows were healed from being tatted I restarted. I have like two weeks that I have started again and let me tell you, it seems harder this time than the first time! Right now in total I have lost 26 pounds and a jean size!

I know that if I have lost this much in a couple a months I can keeping going. My motivation has gone up. If you are interested in losing weight I know that if I have come this far you can too! All you need is to have some time and dedicate it to yourself.

Assigned Entry #1

My opinion about blogs is that some are very quite interesting. Blogs are for anyone whether it's personal or professional. I find personal blogs more interesting to look at when it comes to my free time. Blogs nowadays are being used more frequently. Blogs can be used in many ways, for example they can be informative, personal, sports, humorous or for political views. Many people may not recognize it but blogs are everywhere, whether its any social media like Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram or etc.. Blogs are a good way to let others see your work and get some feedback upon it.
One of the types of blogs I like are the Humorous blogs because they seem to be funny and are easy to grab the attention. Humorous blogs can pretty much make anybodies day. They can take a smile out of your face in a second. In the following link is a humor blog which I like because out of nowhere he's feeling sad but yet makes it funny.  http://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/
Another blog I liked was the google blog. Google is probably everyones best friend. You can find anything you're searching for. Many people use google as their resource on finding a specific topic. Google has just made everything be so simple and easy. Google can be used for maps, images, web search, youtube, gmail and news.
A blog I didn't like would be the the LinkedIn blog, it seemed so simple with nothing interesting. This blog needs to be more detailed inorder to capture ones attention, LinkedIn is more of a professional network which is why my interest in it is so low.

Introduction Entry

Hello everyone! My name is Ariana Martinez, I am enrolled at Glendale Community College. I was thinking about majoring in Accounting but I changed my major into being an Elementary teacher. I decided to stop taking accounting courses because everything the instructors would say would go in through one ear and come out through the other. I would like to teach kids from kindegarten to fourth grade. After two years at GCC I am doing the NAU program here on campus so that way I don't have to go all the way to Flagstaff.

I like to sing in my free time. I may not be good at it but I enjoy it a lot! My favorite music is any spanish music mostly Mexican regional; I don't really have a favorite artist because I personally like all of them. All of them have good songs that are very touching.
The number one place I love to visit is Zacatecas, Mexico. My friends, all my mom's family and a few of my dads are over there. Zacatecas is just a beautiful state, great weather, and many fun places to go to. In Mexico I have visited Zacatecas, Jalisco, Aguascalientes, and Sonora. In the United States I have not traveled to many states as I would wish. Besides Arizona I've only been to California and Texas.
